EXTENSIVE PUBLIC SERVICE
Awarded President Obama’s Silver Volunteer Service Award for public service, as well as the New York State Bar Association’s Empire State Counsel Award for dedication to pro bono service, and the Pro Bono Challenge Award from the international law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, three years in a row. Awarded the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant’s Achievement Medal, and the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant’s Commendation Medal in recognition of lifesaving efforts in the waterways abutting Manhattan, Bronx, and Long Island, as well as the U.S. Dept. of the Army Commander's Medal for Public Service, the N.Y. State Humane Service Medal, and the N.Y. Guard Commander's Citation in recognition of lifesaving efforts during Hurricanes Irene and Sandy.

“Public service is as vital to our personal and professional character as is the air we breathe. My late father came to this country as a displaced refugee of World War II. My late mother had to forego higher education in order to help her family survive during the Great Depression in America. Both of them understood that any successes we attain throughout our lifetimes create a moral duty on all of us to give back to our communities.”
